This is a really difficult question to answer as it is so broad.

There are so many variables for example the style of tattoo, if it’s colour or black and grey, the size of the area to name but a few!

It all really depends on the style of tattoo you are after, each tattoo artist works differently.

Aftercare FAQ's

Here are some of the frequently asked questions about tattoo aftercare.

How do I look after my new tattoo?

Keep wrapped for the next 3 days, changing 3 times daily following the 3 steps below:

  1. Remove the dressing 2-3 hours after you leave the studio.
  2. Wash gently with anti-bacterial soap under warm running water and pat dry with kitchen towel. (Don’t use a hand towel or toilet tissue).
  3. Gently apply a VERY THIN COAT of Balm/ Tattoo Goo/ Bepanthen/ Repeat this step 3/4 times daily, but always ensure to wash the old cream off first.
  • Don’t ever allow your tattoo to become dry, if it does, wash it and apply more cream.
  • Don’t ever pick or scratch at your tattoo, as this can lead to loss of colour or infection.
  • You can stop using Bepanthen cream after 10 days. At this point you can start using a normal moisturising cream or balm until the area is completely healed.

STAY AWAY FROM

Pets, Swimming, Baths, Sunbathing, Saunas, Fake tan, Tight Clothes and Rough Fabrics. Don’t touch your new tattoo with dirty hands, always wash your hands before cleaning your tattoo or apply creams.

If you are unsure about anything or have any question, no matter how silly you may think it is, please contact us and we’d be more then happy to help.

How long does it take for a tattoo to heal?

A tattoo usually takes about 10 days-2 weeks to look fully healed, but takes another few weeks to be truly healed at all layers of the skin. The healing times vary depending on the type of tattoo you get, the style, the size and how well you look after your tattoo.

How long after my tattoo can I wear fake tan?

You can use fake tan on the rest of your body just avoid your fresh tattoo for around 2 weeks or until your tattoo is fully healed.

How long after my tattoo can I go to the gym?

We recommend avoiding the gym for at least three days after a tattoo.

Sweating all over the tattoo will increase the chance of infection.

Exercise can also stretch the skin and rub off scabs, disrupting the fresh ink that has not fully set into your skin.

How long after my tattoo can I swim?

All depending on the scale of your tattoo, on average is not advisable to swim for around 2 weeks or until your tattoo is healed. The same applies to having baths, using steam rooms, saunas, jacuzzis. Showering is ok just no submerging or soaking your new tattoo in water and or chlorine or sea water.
